Vincent Norman Vogt, 72, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away on October 1, 2026 at the Inova Fairfax Hospital. He will be deeply missed.
Vince was born to Donald and Norma Vogt on March 12, 1954. Growing up in a military family, Vince and his sisters, Vicky and Anna, moved often. They eventually settled in Colorado Springs, where Vince attended high school. Here he acquired his life-long love of hiking, fishing, and spending time outdoors connecting with nature.
He graduated from Widefield High School in Security-Widefield, Colorado in 1972 where he excelled in long distance track and cross country. He continued his education at Colorado School of Mines studying geological engineering, graduating in 1976. Subsequently in 1977, he joined the US Bureau of Land Management. His public service career culminated in national oversight of mineral resources on federal land. He retired in 2017 with 40 years of service.
Vince married in 1978, and had two children, Sarah and Andrew. Vince was a wonderful father–always deeply involved in his children’s lives. While Sarah and Andrew were young in Missouri, Vince had a flat-bottomed river boat, and many happy summer days were spent floating down the Gasconade with his kids, often casting a fishing line into the water but seldom catching anything. Vince enjoyed visiting his children when they moved away and cherished the time with his grandchildren.
Vince met Nancy while they were both working in Washington DC; they were “Mauied” in Hawaii in 2016 and resided in Alexandria. They enjoyed many activities together: travelling, golfing, watching sports on TV, and dancing. Vince also played tennis and biked, completing the RAGBRAI (annual ride across Iowa) twice. He was the most undemanding, up for any experience, fun-loving individual.
Vince is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, Sarah (Einar) and Andrew (Catherine) and their mother, Linda; his step-children, Laura and Emily; his grandchildren, Ásta, Grant, Annika, and Arthur; his sisters, Vicky and Anna (Ed); and many extended family members. Vince was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Norma.
He left an indelible mark as a concerned, considerate, kind, and decent person.
A memorial service will be held in early January 2027, details will be forthcoming.
