Born in:
Dayton, Kentucky
Resided in:
Alexandria, Virginia
Stephanie Helen Scott was born to Jerald and Charlene Scott at Speers Hospital in Dayton, Kentucky. Her immediate family, Jerry, Charlene, Brian, and Shelley moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia in 1966. Known affectionately to some of her family as Stevie, Stephanie graduated from Shamrock High School in Decatur, Georgia, where she excelled as a member of the cheerleading squad and varsity swim team. Stephanie was an excellent swimmer who lettered all four years and competed in the state finals. During the summers, Stephanie played softball in a local church league.
Stephanie earned a bachelor’s degree from North Georgia College where she studied social work. While at North Georgia, Stephanie was a 4-year varsity cheerleader and an Echo Company cheerleader. Stephanie also earned a degree from Pembroke State University in teaching, where she became a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. During her working career, she was a social worker who worked in the field and passionately advocated help for women and children. As a teacher, Stephanie taught courses in English as a second language. She was a giver with a huge heart.
A devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend, Stephanie was a beautiful, kind-hearted woman who left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She had a magnetic personality, a love for long conversations, and immense pride in her family. Stephanie and her daughter Kristen were proud members of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She married her college sweetheart, Joe D. Manous Jr. on May 23, 1981, and began the life of an Army spouse. It was a life she never anticipated, but she was resilient, resourceful, and loving as they saw the world through 11-moves during their 29-year Army career. Along the way, they had four children, born in four different states, who Stephanie loved without equal. Wherever they lived, Stephanie had a knack for quickly making friends and swiftly turning a new house into a home. One of her most loved hobbies was cooking meals for others. She was an excellent cook; some of her specialties included fried chicken, cube steak, and omelets.
Stephanie is survived by her husband, Joe; children Kristen, Andrew, Abigail, and Olivia; parents Jerry and Charlene Scott; sister and brother-in-law Shelley and Paul Curry; sister-in-law Yvonda Scott; and numerous nieces and nephews. Stephanie is preceded in death by her brother Brian Scott.
