Sharon Roseann Rockenbaugh (nee Overfield)
January 25, 1943 ~ December 11, 2024
Resided in:
Sterling, Virginia
Sharon Overfield Rockenbaugh, age 81, peacefully slipped away and went to be with the Lord on December 11, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross E. Rockenbaugh, three sisters (Miriam, Mary and Roberta) and one brother (Bud). She is survived by two children: Liesl M. Rollins (George) and Ross Ryan Rockenbaugh (Ruth) along with three grandchildren (Miriam, Timothy, Peter) and three sisters (Beverly, Marilyn and Rosalie).
Sharon was born in Indiana, the daughter of the late Millard and Mildred Overfield. She loved reading and going to school and was a devoted child of God. She excelled in high school and moved on to college at Evangel University, where she graduated with a degree in education. After college, she married her sweetheart Ross and began teaching elementary school. When they soon started their family and moved to Michigan, she fully embraced her new role. As her children grew, she inspired in them a love for reading and music, as well as fostering in them a desire to walk a godly path in life. She also was active in her church and her community, one of the highlights of which was working with a Vietnamese family who had emigrated to the United States. Through it all, the activity she held most dear was studying the Bible, often hours at a time.
After the unexpected loss of her husband, Sharon moved to Virginia to attend Regent University. She graduated with a master’s degree in biblical studies and earned an award for her study of biblical languages. She returned full time to the classroom and found joy in teaching once again. Even after retirement, she returned to teach students in kindergarten through second grade.
Her greatest joy in retirement was spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
One of Sharon’s favorite quotes was from C.T. Studd, “Only one life, ‘twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.” Her life was a testament to her belief in the Lord Jesus Christ, and her family and friends rejoice in the knowledge that they will be reunited with her again.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Sharon’s name to Regent University for their scholarship programs.
Interment private in Dover, PA. A Memorial Service will be held in January of 2025. Date, time and place will be announced at a later date.
So many memories of aunt Sharon an all the family reunions that we had.
Sending prayers and condolences as you walk through this time of loss. Love, Esther
She will be dearly missed, but I look forward to being reunited in heaven!
Love, Rosalie
