Peter William England

Announcement:

With deep sadness, The England Family announces the passing of Peter “Pete” William England, affectionately known as Dad, Husband, Brother, Father, Uncle, Son, Coach, Golf Player, and Tournament Organizer. Peter passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025, surrounded by his family in Alexandria, Virginia.

Identification/Personal Information:

Pete was born on January 17, 1945, in Chicago, IL. During much of his early life, he resided in Waukegan, IL and Kirkwood, MO, and was the beloved son of Dorothea Luckner England and Edward Joseph England. Peter was educated at Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood, MO, the University of Southern California, and the University of Colorado, Boulder. He was a dedicated and talented athlete, playing basketball and serving as the quarterback on his high school football team. He continued his football career at the University of Southern California before transferring to the University of Colorado, where he met his wife of sixty years, Janet Ann Felber.

In 1970, Pete began his distinguished career in civil service as a Uniformed Officer at The United States Secret Service (USSS). He was a decorated graduate of the Executive Protective Service Training Course. He played a key role in the development and training of other Secret Service Officers at the USSS James J. Rowley Training Center. Pete was a firearms instructor and member of the Special Operations Division: Counter Sniper Team, where he received numerous awards for his marksmanship skills. His tenure with the USSS covered the Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and Bush Administrations.

Pete was a dedicated coach, beginning with his daughter’s soccer team, the Cardinal Kickers, in 1972. He went on to coach basketball and his three sons’ soccer teams, leading them to state, regional, and national competitions. He also administered and coached the Olympic Development Soccer Program and various adult league teams. Pete was instrumental in growing soccer in Northern Virginia and worked with local and state government agencies to find land dedicated to the sport. Peter was a natural leader, taking on many challenges and touching countless lives along the way. Pete never wavered in his goal to provide a place for local children to play soccer without the burden of politics and high club fees. He was known for his ability to turn around troubled youth, giving them purpose and structure. He demanded the best from everyone and helped them realize their truest potential.

Pete also loved the game of Golf and spent as much time as he could playing with friends near and far. He played any course he could and often traveled with friends and family to play courses around the world, and at his home course, The Springfield Golf and Country Club.

Pete was a cherished brother to Timothy Richard England (Susan), father to Kristia England Jones (Scott Purcell), Kevin England (Jennifer), Kelly England (passed away March 3, 2019), and Kyle England (Jill). He shared his life with his devoted spouse of 60 years, Janet Ann England. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, several surviving relatives, and many incredible friends who will deeply miss him.

Peter lived life to the fullest, never shying away from getting involved, organizing events, and fighting for the underdog. His presence brought joy to those around him, and his legacy will forever be etched in our hearts.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Pete was a member of the Kirkwood High School Class of ’63, and we all extend our condolences to his family. We are glad he could attend our 55th reunion in 2018. Rest in peace, Pete.

  2. Pete told the most fantastic stories and managed to teach me what I termed my “blue collar” skills. I learned to work with many tools including a wet saw for tiling. He taught me to run a large zero turn grass cutting machine and how to line soccer fields. A sport I never played. Pete was always full of life. He was an intelligent, entertaining, patient person with a huge heart and always ready to lend a helping hand. He will be sorely missed by me and my family.

  3. We spent many years together coaching young players at Kincheloe, traveling to tournaments around the country and enjoying each others company. He was a close friend I could always count on . I will miss him.

  4. We were blessed to have known Pete and to have him play a huge part in our family both on and off the soccer pitch. He was one of a kind with a heart of gold whose stories and antics will forever be etched in our memories. A sincere thank you to the England Family for sharing him with so many of us over the years at Kincheloe. On behalf of Blackwatch ’99 we send our condolences and gratitude.

  5. Pete was a dear friend for 43 unforgettable years. In this time, we shared countless experiences that have shaped and enriched our lives in ways words alone cannot express. For 11 incredible years, we stood side by side on the soccer field, coaching young athletes and imparting not only the skills of the game but also the values of teamwork, perseverance, and fair play. Together, we celebrated victories, learned from defeats, and forged bonds with our players that lasted beyond the final season.
Our friendship was further strengthened by the many vacations we took together. From exploring hidden gems to relaxing by the sea, every trip was a new adventure filled with laughter, discovery, and the kind of companionship that made even the simplest moments unforgettable. These journeys, both near and far, are treasured memories that we will hold close to our hearts. They were opportunities to enjoy each other’s company, engage in friendly competition, and create lasting memories. Our time spent on the golf course, whether we hit the perfect drive or had to search for a lost ball, was a testament to our enduring friendship. He will be missed. May he rest in peace.
