After a prolonged illness, Paul Andrew Flood, 59, of Ashburn, Virginia passed away peacefully with love and comfort at Capital Caring Hospice in Aldie, Va on February 19, 2024.
Andy was born in Chicago, IL in 1965 to Stan and Margaret Flood. He loved and appreciated his parents especially his mother who was dedicated to caring for Andy while he was sick as a child and throughout Andy’s life. His fond childhood memories were playing ice hockey and sledding with his brother and sisters. When his family moved to Roswell, GA , Andy attended Roswell High School. He liked playing football and riding his motorcycle around with his friends. Andy attended Rochester Institute of Technology, in Rochester, NY and majored in Newspaper Production Management. Prior to and after graduating from RIT, Andy appreciated working alongside his father in press rooms where he gained more insight into newspaper print production. He interned with the LA Times and then worked at USA TODAY and Gannett for 20 years. Andy was responsible for ad quality, overseeing print sites globally and purchasing. Upon receiving a Masters Certificate in Federal Government Contracting at George Washington University, Andy worked as a Senior Corporate Subcontracts Manager for various companies in Northern VA.
Andy met his wife Michelle at USA TODAY. They settled in Northern VA. and were married for 30 yrs. Though they did not have children, Andy enjoyed family gatherings and was blessed to spend time with nieces and nephews. His rough collies and siamese cat were his heart.
His Christian belief was steadfast. While residing in Leesburg, Andy enjoyed attending mass at St John the Apostle Catholic Church. He eventually went through RCIA and became a Catholic. Additionally, Andy and Michelle renewed their marriage vows at the church in 2015. Most times, Andy had a rosary in his pocket, a prayer card in his briefcase, or a small angel/token that his mother gave him. His faith gave him strength through his chronic illnesses.
Andy will always be remembered for his good nature, generosity to family, random acts of kindness, and unpredictable humor. Although Andy lived under the cloud of multiple serious health issues, he always enjoyed life to the fullest and was an inspiration to many. Andy will be remembered for his love of the Green Bay Packers, Formula1 Racing, and appreciation for all genres of music.
Andy was preceded in death by Stan and Margaret Flood. He is survived by wife, Michelle Flood, sisters Shannon Flood and Erin Flood, brother and family Matt and Kate Flood and their daughter Morgan Flood.
Viewing (12pm-1pm) followed by Funeral mass (1pm) will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at St John the Apostle Catholic Church in Leesburg, VA.
