Morris Hughes Faber, Jr

Morris Hughes Faber, Jr., 90, of Alexandria, VA passed away, Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Belvoir Woods Health Care Center.
He was born June 16, 1923 to Morris Hughes, Sr. and Lelia Lawson Faber in Clifton Forge, Virginia. His wife of almost 67 years, Nellie Herndon Faber, preceded him in death in May 2010. He has lived in Alexandria since 1964.
He is survived by his son, Colonel (Ret.) Morris Robert "Mo" Faber of Springfield, Virginia.
Morris was affectionately known as Granddaddy to his grandchildren, Darrell Robert Faber and wife, Cheryl, of Land O'Lakes, Florida, and Karen Faber Williams and husband, Steve, of Longwood, Florida. He was GGD to his four wonderful great-grandsons; Grant Robert Williams, Luke Bradley Williams, Cameron Robert Faber and Peyton Ryan Faber.
He and Nell were active square and round dancers for many years in Northern Virginia.
Morris was a liaison pilot in World War II, flying 199 missions adjusting artillery fire in support of Patton's 3d Army before, during and after the Battle of the Bulge. He returned home to work as a precision machinist for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad in Clifton Forge and later for the Savannah River Plant in Aiken, SC. He moved to Alexandria in 1964 where he became a quality assurance inspector and later a quality assurance engineer for Atlantic Research Corporation. Concurrent with his civilian jobs he served in the Virginia National Guard and later in the United States Army Reserve. He was recalled to active duty for two years in 1967 and finally retired from military service in 1983 as a Major.
He will be laid to rest with his beloved Nell at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mr. and Mrs. Faber were our anchor at Reynolds Prospect. Seeing them together always made me smile and I will miss them terribly. My deepest condolences to Mo and his family.
