November 19, 1952 ~ November 20, 2024

Born in: Cincinnati, Ohio
Resided in: Springfield, Virginia

Michael Thomas Doll, of Springfield, Virginia, suddenly passed away at age 72 on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, with his family by his side after a long battle with cancer, a battle he fought with courage and grace.

The son of Llewellyn Jones and Benard Thomas Doll, Mike was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 19, 1952. He was a brother to Gayle Pettit, Valerie Barnes, and Randy Deal.

He was a devoted husband to Evelyn Doll, a loving father to Michelle Merryman (husband – Richard) and Michael T. Doll, Jr. (wife – Rhonda), and a proud Pop-Pop/Popop of Josie (29), Joey (25), Brooklynn (20), Emma (18), Dominick (17), and Spencer (16). His love for his family was big, bright and brought joy to all who knew him.

Mike’s patriotism and dedication were unwavering in his 23 years of service in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1995. His station duties took him to various parts of the world, including the Philippines, Georgia, Germany, Nebraska, and Washington, DC. He supported Operation Dessert Storm and received numerous awards in his military career. His commitment to serving his country was truly admirable.

Mike’s love for sports was a defining part of his life. He was a born athlete, spending his childhood playing baseball, basketball, and gymnastics. In the military, he was part of many Base Command softball, basketball, and bowling teams. His passion for sports continued into his family life, coaching his son’s baseball teams, playing pick-up basketball at the local playgrounds, and golfing with buddies. His energy and love for sports were infectious.

As a dedicated father and grandfather, his all-time favorite hobbies were spending time on the golf course with his son, traveling around the country to visit his daughter’s family, and watching his grandchildren pursue their passions of basketball, lacrosse, cheer, rugby, music, and art. He often talked about the adventures of searching for Bigfoot, fishing, anything Cincy Bearcats, and occasional trips to the slots in Charlestown and MGM in National Harbor.

Most of all, Mike loved spending time with his devoted and loving wife, Evelyn, of 50 years. They built a loving family and home in many places. They hosted many holiday parties and grandchildren’s birthday parties and enjoyed the company of friends who they considered family.

We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and fond memories shared by all who knew Mike. We will host a Celebration of Life and toast to our dad on Saturday, 30 November 2024 from 2-5pm at the CrossPointe Community Center (8275 Glen Eagles Ln, Fairfax Station, VA 22039).
