January 28, 1953 ~ October 23, 2024
Born in:
Waynesfield, Ohio
Resided in:
Alexandria, Virginia
Marty J. Weygandt, 71, Retired Lt. Col., USMC, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend unexpectedly passed away on October 23, 2024 in Alexandria, VA. He was surrounded by family and loved ones.
Marty was born to William and Donna Jean Weygandt and raised in the small rural community of Waynesfield, OH. He graduated from Waynesfield-Goshen High School, received a Bachelors in Political Science from Wittenberg University in Ohio, and a Masters in Business from National University in San Diego. Following graduation from Wittenberg, Marty attended Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Quantico, VA and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. After graduation from The Basic School (TBS), he was designated an infantry officer. During his career he served in all three active Marine divisions as a rifle platoon commander, rifle company commander and infantry battalion operations officer. He also served as a series officer at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, Marine Corps Recruiting District, San Francisco, Marine Corps Security Forces, Mare Island, CA and in the Program and Resources Directorate at Headquarters, Marine Corps. Additionally Marty served as Battalion Commander at Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton, CA.
Marty’s service in the Marine Corps took him all over the world, including combat during Operation Desert Storm, and he built many lifelong friendships along the way. Over the course of his 24 years of service he received numerous medals, and commendations including the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with 1 gold star in lieu of a second award, a Navy/ Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon. His dedication to the Marine Corps and allegiance to his country were paramount to him. He always lived by the Marine Corps motto, Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful). He retired from the Marine Corps and became a consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton. After full retirement, he settled in Alexandria, VA where he was close to his children and grandchildren.
In 1981 he married the love of his life, Cindy, at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA in a traditional military wedding. Over their 43-year marriage they were blessed with two wonderful children and three terrific grandchildren. Marty and his family took full advantage of their time at each new job post and made core memories all over the country. Specifically, up and down the coast of California, on the shores of North Carolina and in northern Virginia. Marty was a history buff and relished taking his family to many historical national sites and cross-country road trips which allowed them to visit family and dear friends along the way. Some of the things he enjoyed the most during his retirement was being “Papa” to his energetic little grandchildren, traveling the world, golfing, baking his famous banana bread, grilling his delicious ribs and walking the neighborhood with his faithful four legged companion Bentley. His liveliness, quick-witted sense of humor and compassionate ways will be missed, but his loving spirit will remain in our hearts forever.
Marty is survived by his wife Cindy, daughter Natalie (Adam) Schlosser, son Nicholas Weygandt (Nikki Dell), twin sister Melody Gillette and older sister Cynthia Weygandt, and beautiful grandchildren, William, Preston and Colette Schlosser.

Following the service, the celebration of Marty’s life will continue at Chadwick’s Restaurant (203 Strand St, Alexandria, VA 22314) starting at 1:00 PM.

I can not believe this , lm in Maryland and going to Washington DC Tuesday by train Mary was a great person to know.
To the family, what a good friend Marty was. So many memories in and out of school! Not surprised he was such a family man. May you experience God’s peace in your time of sorrow!
We are so very sorry to hear of Marty’s passing! I was a friend and FIJI Fraternity Brother of Marty’s at Wittenberg, Class of 1975, same as Marty. Marty and I enjoyed some great times there. My wife Elaine and I met at Wittenberg and Marty was a part of our “group” that socialized when we weren’t studying. 😉 We were very proud of Marty when he joined ROTC and then began his career with the Marines. Our prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time. WHAT A GREAT GUY!!! Rob and Elaine Ludeman
We are heartbroken about this. Marty’s cheerfulness and quick wit provided a joyful environment for all. His history knowledge was vast and would “school” you in a respectful, congenial manner. Our condolences and prayers to the Weygandt family… may your fondest memories assuage your loss. God bless you.
Marty has been my best friend and brother for 53 years. I love him and will greaty miss him. I am here for his family.

My deepest condolences to Cindy, Natalie and Nick. I was stunned and heartbroken to hear of Marty’s death. It’s a terrible loss for his family and friends, and the Nation. He was so quiet, and yet so well spoken, always quick with a bit of wry humor and a sparkle in his eyes that I will never forget.
Oh where does the time go…seems like yesterday we were sharing time with Marty and Cindy as young Marine Officers in SoCal…so many times we crossed paths again. We share the families sorrow but relish the joy in the time we spent growing old. May You be with Jesus and feel His comfort and we pray for understanding and love for Cindy, Natalie and Nick, as well as his extended family. Semper Fi, brother.
Doug & I are grieving with you all to the passing of a wonderful man. Marty, you will be missed. May you rest in peace in heaven with our Lord. Cindy and family, you are all in our thoughts and prayers that you will find comfort and solace in this time of great sadness and loss. We love you.
