June 26, 1955 ~ February 7, 2024

Martin (Marty) Joseph Molohon, 68 of Boonsboro, MD passed at Inova Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg, VA on February 7, 2024 after a more than 40 year long battle with recurring Cancer and the same fatal disease progression suffered my multiple relatives and siblings.  Marty was born on June 27, 1955 in Owensboro, KY to the late James William and Mary Dorothy Bowlds Molohon.

Marty was a proud combat veteran having served in the US Army on both active duty between 1974 and 1977 and in the Army Reserves until 1980.  Marty participated in the Vietnam War, as well as, anti-terrorist activities in Germany.  Marty was specifically recruited during his time in service and achieved the elite status of becoming a Front Seat Gunner on a U.S. Army Cobra Attack Helicopter. He was particularly proud of the many missions he flew, after the cease fire, in search of POW/MIA personnel.

Marty was highly artistic, passionate and a true “life long learner” having completed his GED in the US Army, he followed up, using his G.I. Bill benefits, in his 20’s, to obtain an Associate’s Degree in Computer Technology from United Electronics Institute (UEI) of Louisville, KY and then in his later years with a Course of Study in Alternative Energy Technologies at Hagerstown Community College. In between, Marty spent 16 years as a Research Scientist and among other achievements, helped develop the “Safety Wick” used in virtually all Candles today.

Beyond that, his passionate altruistic pursuits required continuous self learning in his various research areas of interest.  His work, that was intended toward the benefit of others, is described in the multitude of You Tube videos, he uploaded over the years, to his more than 16,000 Subscribers from around the globe.  His native intelligence, altruism and creativity as evidenced in his videos are his distinctive hallmark and legacy.

Marty is survived by his beloved son, Shawn Martin Molohon and sister Rita Ann Beckman of Louisville, KY, as well as, his brother Frederick James Molohon of Indianapolis, IN.  Marty was preceded in death by his Sisters: Jane Francis Thompson and Susan Mary Whitesides, as well as, his dearly beloved long term companion and domestic partner, Mary Jo Cunningham of Smithsburg, MD, together with whom, he attended Saint Ann Catholic Church in Hagerstown, MD.

Marty’s cremains will be scattered at the location he requested, in a private event following a Celebration of Life.

The family would like to thank the many friends and supporters Marty relied on as his health declined.
