Joyce Smith

Joyce D'Albrooke Yates Smith, 84 died on December 21, 2010 of a heart attack after a long illness in Alexandria, Virginia. She had been married to Edgar A. Smith, who died in 1992. She will be inured in his niche in the columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery.

Joyce was born in Hollywood, California on September 10, 1926 and was raised in California, marrying Edgar in 1944. In 1956, she accompanied him to Indonesia and later to Thailand and India where she enjoyed learning many artistic and culinary skills while making a home for her family. The family returned to the United States in 1971 and settled in Alexandria, Virginia where she pursued a career in Real Estate and was very active in the Begonia Society as well as other community activities.

Joyce is survived by her three sons, Brandon, Garrett, and Kirk and three grandchildren, Homer, Samantha and Keenan.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations made in her name to any of the charitable organizations she donated time and money to over the years, including The Salvation Army, Goodwill, and The Humane Society of North Americal.
