FAITH FAMILY FRIENDS FUN

James Francis Munley was born on June 10, 1944 at Georgetown Hospital in Washington, DC.

He was the fourth of 13 children born to Cornelia and Michael Munley.

Growing up in a large and 'lively' family ... his laughter and wonderful sense of humor became the hallmark of 'Jimmy' that would stay with him all his life. He loved their family times and growing up with his dozen siblings.

Jimmy was an enthusiastic learner; he was a good student excelling in math and a member of the National Honor Society. From an early age, he had a passion for sports and loved to compete. Growing up in the DC area, it's no surprise he learned to love baseball as a fan of the Washington Senators. He played Little League Baseball and was an All-Star 2nd basemen, achieving the Gold Glove award along with the highest batting average in his day in Arlington County, VA

He attended St.Anne's Catholic Elementary School and Bishop D.J. O'Connell High School. At Georgetown University, Jim studied Business which would serve him well in his career activities. He worked for his father's well known Restaurant as a Maitre' D - 'The Place where Louie Dwells' in Washington, DC. On occasion, his Dad would fly him to NYC on a small plane to listen to Frank Sinatra and other talented musicians of that era where he learned to love music.

Jimmy also  served in the Army National Guard and was an outspoken patriot who loved his
Country!

In 1976, Jimmy met the love of his life, Nina.
Three years later, they married in Fairfax, VA and recently celebrated their 40th Anniversary on October 26, 2019.

Jimmy was an active Dad and cheered his children on through all their traveling soccer teams and other interests. He volunteered to assist with their sports teams including Lake Braddock High School football.

After seeing his Dad's accomplishments in the restaurant business, his entrepreneurial spirit inspired him to open his own restaurant supply business in 1980. After 10 years, he transitioned into the mortgage banking profession. Jim had a gift for numbers and was pleased to help clients finance their own home! He also obtained Real Estate and Insurance Licenses and served as 'The Mayor' of the cul-de-sac where he lived. In recent years, his interest in new activities led him to join UBER as a driver. He knew every back road in the DC metro area; he enjoyed engaging with people and his affable personality resulted in high ratings, making him a favorite.

Family and friends were very important to him - he was energized by meeting new people. There were no strangers with Jimmy! He was the master of most games - no one could beat him at cards, ping pong, chess or billiards! Age did not define him. Hence, the nickname, FUN-MUN! In fact, all his nieces and nephews loved 'Uncle Quack Quack' due to his infamous Donald Duck voice and his best friend Mickey Mouse!

Tennis anyone? Jimmy had a natural talent for tennis and at his peak was ranked a 4.5 by the USTA; some called him the human backboard! He loved skiing - and then there was golf. He and his friends made memories chasing the little white ball across many courses! He was known as an excellent putter. If he made a good putt, he would say "drive for show, putt for dough!"

He was a faithful season ticket holder for the 'Washington Nationals' Baseball Team and joined the 'Nats' fans cheering them on to their World Series Win!

His life was forever changed when his buddy and brother-in-law, Keith, shared the good news of Jesus Christ. Jimmy spent many all-nighters reading the Bible - the gospel of John - until the Holy Spirit opened his heart and mind to God's gift of forgiveness. He often retold the story of how he was rescued and given a new song in his heart when he trusted in Jesus alone for his salvation. He wanted everyone to know so they could put their faith in Jesus as well.

Jimmy joined lmmanµel Bible Church in 1982.
He actively participated in IBC's 'Friendship Outreach' given his passion for sharing the truth of God's amazing forgiveness through Jesus to set people free. He delighted to lead couples Bible Studies in his home and participated in Wednesday morning prayer meetings. He also played on IBC's men softball team.

Without question, his great delight was sharing his belief in the saving grace of Jesus to forgive sins; he would often say "It's not complicated ... just BELIEVE in Jesus and you will be saved."

Psalm 40 and Ephesians were his favorites along with II Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come!

Jimmy leaves his loving wife and best friend, Nina, and their 4 children and spouses:Theresa (Teri) Kay and Nicholas Pollard, James (Jamie) Francis Munley Jr., Edward (Ted) John and Rebecca Cathleen Munley, Sean Michael Munley.

He was Pop Pop to his 3 grandchildren: Dakota James Dion, Aidan Christopher Raba and Maive Ann Munley.

His surviving 10 siblings and spouses: Mary Cornelia (Peach) and James (Muggs) Simpson, Kathleen (Kitty) Ann and Douglas Heim, Patrick (Pat) Joseph and Donna Munley, Susan Pinckney Pernell, Kevin Barry Munley, Lawrence (Larry) Kane Munley, Geraldine (Jerri} and Michael Foley, Charles Ransom (Ranse) and Evon Munley, Marian Jean and Robert Calhoun, and Barbara J. Manesiotis.

He is preceded in death by Michael John Munley.Jr., Donald Lee Munley, and Mitch Manesiotis.
