Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Resided in:
Alexandria, Virginia
Jacqueline P. Sachlis passed away peacefully at home on September 1, 2026, at the age of 94. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 16, 1931, to Joseph and Jean Kelly (Clifton), she spent her early years there before moving to Arlington, Virginia. She studied dance from the age of two through high school, attended college for one year, and later worked as a bookkeeper. On May 9, 1951, she married George E. Sachlis Jr. My father deeply admired my mother’s many interests, which included reading, gardening, music, birdwatching, caring for the environment, and spending time with our dogs. Above all, she was devoted to her family and pets and took great joy in sharing the interests she cherished.
She supported her children’s education by volunteering at the elementary school library, leading a Junior Girl Scout Troop and serving as an active member and then President of the Edison High School Band Parents. She never missed her children’s music performances. She treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren. As her health challenges increased, she never lost her sense of wonder about the world around her. She continued to make observations and ask questions, wanting to learn.
She is survived by her children, Leslie Sachlis and Brian Sachlis (Robin), and her grandchildren, Heather Milliken and Gregory Sachlis. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph P. and Jean P. Kelly (Clifton); her sister, Patricia Wolford; and her husband, George E. Sachlis Jr.
