Harry Haywood Daugherty, age 84, of Haymarket, VA, a retired steel executive, died February 5th after a short illness at Prince William Hospital in Manassas, Virginia. Harry was born in Philadelphia, PA on April 21, 1929 to the late Harry and Grayce Evans Daughtery and grew up in New Kensington, PA.

A 1952 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Engineering, Mr. Daugherty also received an MBA in Business Administration in 1972 from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.
Mr. Daugherty served in the United States Navy from 1952 until 1956 when he was honorably discharged as a LTJG. He served aboard the USS Bache and the USS Sigourney.
Mr. Daugherty retired from Bethlehem Steel Corporation in 1984 after a 30-year career as a sales executive. He went on to become vice president of corporate development at the Birmingham Steel Corporation in Birmingham, AL retiring to Savannah, GA in 1996.
Life-long interests include model railroading, playing golf, and following the University of Virginia football team. Mr. Daugherty also served as a deacon and elder in the Presbyterian Church.

Harry was the beloved husband of 60 years of Nancy McLeod Daugherty, loving and devoted father of Mark Evans Daugherty of Staunton, Nancy Daugherty Davidson and her husband Michael of Fairfax, VA , proud grandfather of Meredith, Hyten, and Lydia.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 15th at 1 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, The Plains, VA where he was a member. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: The Nancy and Harry Daugherty Engineering Scholarship, (checks payable to UVA Engineering Foundation) P.O.   1. Harry was a Giant in the Steel Industry as his word was his bond. I bought the first truckload of rebar from Harry when he went to Birmingham Bolt and our friendship grew over the years. I will miss him very much but I have many happy memories to sustain me until we meet again.
