E. Eugene "Gene" Jennings, Jr

Of Reston, Virginia died Sunday, May 4, 2014 after a long battle with dementia. The beloved husband of Susan Jennings for 40 years; loving father of Katherine Brandenburg and father-in-law of John Brandenburg, both of Falls Church; and great friend to many across the country. He is predeceased by his father, E.E. Jennings; his mother, Johnnie Mavrelis; and sister, J. Lynn Farrell. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, he also lived in Houston, Texas; Pasadena, Walnut Creek, and Orange California; as well as 26 years in the DC area. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Stephen F. Austin High School with a scholarship to Vanderbilt University, where he earned a Bachelor in Engineering (Chemical). He earned an MBA from George Mason University and a Taxation MBA from San Francisco's Golden Gate University. He also earned a Management Information Systems Graduate Certificate from American University. He was a Certified Cost Engineer, a Certified Project Management Professional (Systems Engineering), and a member of Mensa. Over the course of his career, he worked for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, USGS, and Minerals Management Service of DOI. He served as a project and planning engineer/manager with British Petroleum in San Francisco and Alaska and a project planning and cost engineer with Southern California Edison. Additionally, he served numerous clients across the country as a project manager and consultant, including: CAP GEMINI, EXELON POWER, BWXT, BAE Systems for Marine Corps security installations, EDS in intranet security, TSA, FAA and DOE (nuclear clean-up), PricewaterhouseCoopers, Unocal, CSC, Bechtel, and Foster Wheeler. He was a longtime member and deacon of Georgetown Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at Georgetown Presbyterian Church, 3115 P Street Northwest, Washington DC on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow. Valet parking will be provided.
