Doris passed away peacefully following a lengthy battle with multiple myeloma. Her husband Frank was at her side. They were happily married for 30 years. She took pride in telling people she was a true native of Washington, D.C.

Doris was born in Southeast D.C., the daughter of the late James and Bessie Rettew. Upon graduation from the University of Maryland, Doris pursued a career in government service and retired after 33 years as a management analyst with the Federal Communications Commission.

During their many years together, Doris and Frank enjoyed traveling and loved to entertain.

In addition to her husband, Doris is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Murray Benthel, and by her niece and her husband, Diane and Russ Blackburn.

A memorial service and reception to celebrate Doris' life will be held at a later date.

The family requests donations be made in Doris' memory to: Capital Caring Hospice, Resource Development Dept., 2900 Telstar Court, Falls Church, VA 22042.

  1. Throughout life one hopes to look back at their accomplishments with joy. For me, it was knowing I introduced Doris to Frank. They in turn loved to introduce me to friends as Cupid – a title I proudly owned. It was a match made in heaven. Doris was a dear friend and I will miss her. Rest in peace, Doris
