Born in: Washington, D.C.
Resided in: Washington, D.C.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cora Elizabeth Harris on July 22, 2024. Cora was born on December 27, 1964, to William Oliver Harris and Patsy Ragland Harris. She was married and blessed with a beautiful daughter Tamira Arnet Gatlin from this union.

Cora graduated from T. C. Williams High School in 1983. During these years she discovered her love for the arts. She enjoyed crochet, drawing, cooking, music, and an array of different arts and crafts.  Later in her life her creative outlet was all things crochet.  All size blankets from baby to king sized, winter hats, leg warmers, and socks. Her artwork will continue to live on in many homes reflecting her warm spirit.

She worked many years in office supplies sales. Later on she started a new career path to align with her passion for cooking.  She graduated from D.C. Central Kitchen as a professional production cook.  She took great pride in preparing and providing meals for the D.C. Public School system and feeding those less fortunate in the community. There she made a great impact touching the lives of the staff and the volunteers with her feisty personality, quick wit, and love for others.

Cora was a devoted grandmother to Payton Rose Pearson. She enjoyed spending time with her daughter and granddaughter. She was present at all cheerleading competitions, school performances, church services, and awards ceremonies.

She will be remembered as a fighter to the end. Cora survived breast cancer in 2018, only to face it again earlier this year. She had other health complications such as renal failure, maintaining her weekly dialysis treatments.

Cora will be remembered for her resilience and love for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy lives on through the family that survives her: Tamira A. Gatlin (daughter), Payton R. Pearson (granddaughter), Sarah M. Harris (sister), Anthony Tyrese Jacobs (nephew), step mother, uncles, aunts, cousins, and a host of close family friends.

Memorial Service will be held at New Mount Nebo Baptist Church, 7501 Walker Mill Drive, Capitol Heights, MD 20743.  Visitation will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 10 a.m. and the Memorial Service will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. You are going to be missed. But I have decided to grieved quietly. Just like you did as you fought your health battles . I never heard you complain; you always looked fabulous, You were so much fun to be around. If I wasn’t family , I would have never known the private battles you dealt with.
May God light a candle to guide to your Heavenly home as you get to your reward. Rest in peace, Dear One!

  2. Though we lived miles apart Cousin Cora held a special place in my heart. I have beautiful memories of my visits down south. Love and condolences to Sarah, Tamara, Payton and our family.
