Carey Williamson Daniel, Jr., 86, of Arlington, VA, died August 23, 2024.

The son of Carey Williamson Daniel, Sr. and Margaret Cagel Dixon Daniel, he was born February 18, 1938 in Durham, NC.  He was in the Reserve Officers Training Corp. at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1959.  Colonel Daniel got his Bachelor of Science in International Studies at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.  He earned a second Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1965 from Oklahoma State University, after which he earned a Masters in Industrial Engineering in 1973 at Texas A&M University.

Colonel Daniel joined the Air Force in 1959 and retired in 1982.  He began his Air Force career which took him around the world and throughout the United States.  He was an assistant foreign release officer, air intelligence officer, an aircraft maintenance officer, chief of the management analysis branch, maintenance staff officer, chief of the B1 aircraft logistics branch, and a logistics plans and program staff officer.  He also served as Director of Logistics and Deputy Director of the Cruise Missile Program at the Pentagon.

Colonel Daniel earned the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor, with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnamese Honor Medal First Class, Republic of Vietnam.

Colonel Daniel’s post-Air Force career included working 11 years at  ARINC Research Corporation, originally part of Aeronautical Radio Incorporated, a company that develops standards for avionics hardware and communications systems. Carey served as Executive Vice President at ARINC Research.

Carey was a war history buff, passionate about genealogy, trains, and airplanes.  He enjoyed exercising, building model trains, carving ducks, framing pictures and travelling the globe in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean.

Carey’s wife, Frances Dolores Hobgood, pre-deceased him in 2021.  He is survived by his husband, Paul Dominick Repaci, his sister, Margaret Anne Daniel Utley, his sons, Troy Kevin Daniel, Jeffrey Kendal Daniel, grandchildren, Dylan, Layla, stepson Robert Daniel Creadick, step-grandchildren Christina, and Daniel.

Burial with full military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Arlington National Cemetery.
