blanche florcsk

Blanche M. Florcsk, 98, of Bay Shore, Long Island, New York, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022.

Blanche was born in New York City, New York to Martha and Andrew Florcsk on June 1, 1924. For the last five months of her life she resided in Fairfax, Virginia.

After graduating from high school, Blanche became a seamstress. She spent her entire career as a seamstress in the Garment District in New York City for over 45 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Local 155 International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union.

Blanche was a very strong and fiercely independent woman that took pride in thoroughly taking care of herself until the age of 97. In early retirement years, Blanche and her sister, Helen, liked to travel and vacation in Florida and visit their family in Virginia, they had fun being members of an informal Retired Ladies’ Social Club getting together to socialize, to play card games, to exchange recipes, and to have an all-around-good-time. In the latter years of retirement, Blanche enjoyed being an avid reader, gardening, and crocheting, specifically, scarves and blankets that would be left behind as keepsakes for family members to cherish.

Blanche was preceded in death by her parents, Martha and Andrew Florcsk, her sister Helen Florcsk, her brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Lil Florcsk, and her cousin, Elenor Beck Warren. She is survived by her nephew, Scott Florcsk, her niece and her husband, Traci and Aaron Otte, her great-nieces, Taylor and Holly Otte, and her ex niece-in-law, Olivia Cedillo.

Funeral Service will be on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Old Town Funeral Choices, 1205 Belle Haven Rd., Alexandria, VA. Interment will be on Monday, August 29, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Cemetery of the Holy Rood, 111 Old Country Rd., Westbury, NY.
