March 15, 1926 ~ November 23, 2017

Aitcheson Bowmar van der Voort was the third of four children of Emily Bowmar and Henry Ferdinand van der Voort Jr. He was "Bow" to his family and "Bo" to his friends, neighbors, and coworkers, and spent his younger years in Dunkirk, New York.

He graduated from Lawrenceville School and enrolled at Princeton University, then interrupted college to voluntarily enlist in the Marine Corps during World War II. He received an Honorable discharge, returned to Princeton, and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Public and International Affairs. Having remained an active reservist, he served as a Marine Corps Officer during the Korean War.

Upon completion of his military service, Bo moved to the Washington, D.C. area. He entered graduate school at Georgetown University, received a Master's Degree in Economics, and pursued post graduate studies. He worked briefly for the Department of Commerce and continued the rest of his professional career as a business economist with the Machinery and Allied Products Institute. He was a researcher, consultant, author, advisor to corporate America, and officer of the organization.

Known as a kind and gentle man, he was soft spoken and well-read with low key humor and a quick wit. He loved family, friends, books, and classical music; he enjoyed travel, economics, and informal discussions. An enjoyment of learning from everyone made his life a continuing education. Following retirement, he remained active with the National Economists Club, volunteered in the community, participated in a men's discussion group, and attended Agenda: Alexandria meetings.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, goddaughter, Carolyn MacFarlane, and a host of relatives and friends including sisters-in-law, nieces, grand nieces, nephews and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.

A private Memorial Service and Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the American Cancer Society, 1-800-227-2345.
