Resided in: Alexandria, Virginia

Ms. Vicki Lynn Ratcliffe, of Alexandria, Va., passed away October 19, 2025. Vicki, born June 15, 1951, was the daughter of May and Leo Ratcliffe. She is survived by her twin sister Deborah, her Aunt Thelma and several cousins.

Vicki graduated from Lynchburg University in 1973. She traveled to Avignon, France for postgraduate study, which propelled her to a life of world-wide traveling and adventures. Vickie always had her next trip planned. Because Vicki was a fearless traveler, she has friends throughout the United States and in foreign countries. Vicki had a long and successful career as a public servant with the federal government as a computer specialist. She excelled as a technology expert and mentor for visually impaired individuals, and beta tested many assistive technology products. Vicki’s indomitable spirit led her to pursue innovative approaches for accessible travel, mobility and education of blind students.

Vicki loved being outside whether it was tandem biking, kayaking and cross country skiing with New England Ski for Light, swimming in the pool or sitting on her balcony in her beloved condominium community. Vicki also loved singing; she sang with many community choirs, including an international on-line choir during the pandemic, and was a decades long member
of the Northern Virginia Community College Choir. She was also an active member of the American Council for the Blind and Fairlington United Methodist Church.

Loved and admired by friends, family and community, her dynamic spirit is eternally present. A celebration of Vicki’s life will be held on Saturday Nov. 22nd at 11:00 at Fairlington United Methodist Church, 3900 King St., Alexandria Va.

  1. Vicki was such a wonderful person. Such a good friend. I am so sorry to hear the bad news. May she rest in peace. The rose I picked up at all saints day walking out of our church happened to be a double budded rose. RIP Vicki. Love you so much Linda Smith

  2. Vicky,

this made me so sad. We sang in NVCC for years, and you were always so kind an upbeat. My heart is heavy that you are gone. We haven’t seen each other since I moved to Norway, but this has left me with profound sadness. Rest in Peace.

  3. Vicki and I lived in the same building for 16 years. She always was in a cheerful mood when we ran into each other coming and going. I saw her regularly at the outdoor pool. All I had to do was say hello and she immediately knew who I was. She was an amazing person.

  4. Vicki was amazing and had so many friends here at her condo. She was fearless and nothing stopped her! Her stories about travelling were so interesting! I listened to the zoom when she talked about tips for travelling. One of the stories she told was when she went to Canada and the cab driver shut the door on her white cane. He was very apologetic and taped it together. Vicki took it in stride and said just be prepared next time and she always packed two white canes on her travels. She joined our bus trips and was such an inspiration to all. Her bright light will be missed so much!

  5. Vicki was such a delight of a person! We both are long-time members of Fairlington United Methodist church, and I always enjoyed talking with her. She was a huge lover of music, and I kept thinking I’m sure she was up in Heaven enjoying the Requiem we sang for All Saints Sunday 2025. I’m glad we were able to sing you home, Vicki!

  6. Ms. Vicky was a wonderful neighbor. I was blessed to know her and enjoyed our walks to the pool, impromptu meetings in the lobby and around the community center. She was always on the go. I will miss her.
