Therese Marie Allen

Her big personality, her big laugh, her big heart and her big hair are what come to mind for everyone who knew Terri. They came together with her big creative spirit when she sang, wrote songs, took on a character. Wanting to revive the art of Cabaret, she quickly became a driving force in the DC Cabaret Network until her death. From 1987 to 2007 she was an Artistic Associate of Horizons Theater, the oldest continually running professional women's theater in the country. In addition to her work as a singer, songwriter and actress, Terri was a well-respected video producer, creating fresh, exciting videos for the Census Bureau since 1999. She was a beloved sister, aunt, colleague and friend.
Terri was a fireball of energy -described by her neighbors, family and friends alike as full of life, kind. She created community everywhere she went. With a generous heart, she mentored many new voices and producers who have added their talents to the Cabaret and video scenes in DC. She was an avid Atudiant francais. She also enjoyed giving Astrology and Tarot readings.
Suddenly, Terri left this world on Friday, August 22 with her sister, Barbara, by her side. As her niece Carey said, she went quickly, softly and quietly - not exactly in character for Terri! Her brothers Jim and Michael and her sister Barbara deeply miss her. Her nieces and nephews Jason, Carey, Lisa, Chase, Hannah, Cody and her many friends will remember her joi de vivre.
Terri was born in Buffalo, New York, when she was 9 her family moved to Arizona. Throughout High School Terri starred in the school musical and graduated Valedictorian of her class. She attended Catholic University, where she received both BA and MA degrees in Theater.
She is predeceased by her parents John and Martha (Scholer) Allen.

Terri’s friendship, laugh,and generous spirit during the time we worked together at URC will never be forgotten. My condolences to Terri’s family.
I graduated from Buena High School a year behind Terri. We were in several shows together. I’ll never forget her. Even back then, her talent was unmistakable. Can’t believe you’re gone so soon!
The curtain has gone down but the show must go on. Terri continues her life "backstage." Though I did not know Terri for long in life, I feel fortunate to have been infused with her spirit. What a joy! My deepest sympathies to those who are missing her.

Terri: I can still hear your voice–sweetness and power and, most of all, your love of the song. We met in elementary school, became friends in high school, and touched base at random points and times throughout our lives. Each time we crossed paths what was most striking was you had not lost your smile, you had not lost that slight touch of Buffalo in your talk, and your eyes never lost their bright shine. Most of all, your beautiful voice was still bigger than your frame, and your heart and soul were still bigger than your voice. God bless. Love, Jay

I met Terri in high school – along time ago -where we shared a love of music and theater. Though we lost contact over the years, it doesn’t surprise me at all that her star continued to shine. How could it not? My thoughts and love to Barb and the family
