Guestbook

  1. A great, unselfish, heroic man has left us. Tony was my friend and my hero for three decades and I will miss him terribly. "Green be the turf above thee, friend of my better days."

  2. Dear Fiona and family, We had many good times together in Rome in the 1980s, and years later I had the pleasure of working with Tony when he was in Kabul. He was always the pro, but most importantly, a really great guy. I’m very sorry for your loss. Tony

  3. Honored to have met Tony while on TDY in Kabul during 2003. I will always remember his amazing stories and no nonsense attitude. It would be impossible to express the respect I (and many others) have for him in a few simple words. RIP, Tony and Semper Fi.

  4. My condolenes to the Diebler Family. I had the pleasure to share an office with Tony when I transfered to SY/T in February 1984 and through his many stories got to learn a lot about SY in the old days. Throughout my career with DSS I would bump into Tony and he always had a cheerful smile and a hello. Just a wonderful guy to know. Wish I could have worked for him during my career. RIP Tony. Karl Renz, DSS (SEO Ret)

  16. Tony Deibler is a DSS legend. I had the privilege to work with him numerous times and learned a lot from him. He was a great boss and demanded a lot from his people. He gave as much as he required though and was extremely kind to my family and I. He will be missed. God bless.

  17. TOny Deibler was much admired and recognized as a hero. I had the honor of serving with him briefly and know his dedication and unswerving loyalty contributed more to our country than most understand. I also know from my recent loss how hard this time is for loved ones. It does get better as the memories live on.

  18. Tony was one of the first agents-in-charge with whom I had the privilege to work when I finished basic agent training in 1992. I have met many DSS agents over the years. Most, including me, wish they had the integrity and guts that Tony exhibited. We will definitely miss him. My condolences to his family.

  19. A true American patriot. A warrior and friend. I met Tony in 1964 and our paths would cross several times in the following years. It is an honor to have known him and been his friend. We need more men like him. My thoughts and prayers to Fiona, Alexis and William.

Thanks for being a great mentor to a young agent twelve years ago and for setting the standard of honorable service for DS agents in harm’s way.

  25. I only worked with Tony a few times and the last time was over 20 years ago. Yet, he still lives on for many of us (in DSS) who knew him through the many stories we’ve heard over the years. He was special and he will be fondly & well remembered by many of us for years and years to come.

  26. It was a true honor and privilege to serve with Tony. He sought out the most demanding challenges and met each with great dedication and sense of purpose.

  27. It was one of my greatest honors in DSS to have worked with Tony. He was a true legend and patriot and they just don’t make guys like him anymore!!

  28. Mrs. Deibler please accept my condolences for the loss of your husband Anthony (Tony) may God bless you and your family going forward and may Tony RIP!

  29. My sympathies to the Deibler Family I worked with Tony on numerous PRS details, most memorably our MSD TDY to Sarajevo in ’95. Gone too soon. He was certainly one of a kind! God bless Tony.

  30. My thoughts and prayers are with Tony’s family. Tony was always helpful to me when I was a new "green" agent. I always said that if I ever could have only one person to back me up, it would be Tony Diebler. A great agent and mentor. May he rest in peace.

  31. To Fiona and family: I grieve with you in your loss. Tony was a great friend and patriot, one of those rare men who have the courage to face the most daunting situations fearlessly, and one who said what he believed, whatever the consequences. Viewing these tributes from Tony’s countless friends is a wonderful reminder of how many lives he influenced. I’ll miss him greatly.

  32. To the Deibler family, May God grant you the strength to move forward during your time of grief. Tony was a fantastic guy! Always willing to step-up to the next challenge. He will be missed! Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  33. To Tony’s family – i am heartsick. i loved Tony, we were DS agents together. Underneath his professional demeanor was a heart of gold and a wry sense of humor. On my first trip to Camp David, Tony offered to drive me around on the golf cart to show me the ropes – he was there w/ his protectee, one of the well known MidEast leaders of the time – imagine Tony’s surprise – shock – when the dignitary kissed him right on the lips (customary for the region) in front of all the Secret Service and DS agents who were around – he was mortified but i still laugh at the memory. i am so saddened by his loss.

  34. Tony and I first met in 1978 in Beirut; he a new ARSO and me, a first tour MSG. Over the years our paths have crossed in a variety of adventures and I always found Tony to be kind and generous to a fault. He had my respect for his individualism, personal and professional courage, his loyalty to his friends and his love of family, life and country. He always had your back. I will miss him. Semper Fi good friend. Steve

  35. Tony was one of my first mentors in DS and was a true example of integrity, perserverance, and hard work. He was one of the best agents/mentors I ever worked with and I also remember how dedicated he was to his family. He will be greatly missed. Our condolences to Tony’s family.

  36. Tony was truly a legend in the DSS. A winner of valor awards and example to all of what "defender or protector" really means. Tony was always ready to fall on his sword if it meant doing what was right and keeping people safe. May he serve as a model to follow for many years to come. Rest in Peace.

  37. Tony, I am happy that I had the pleasure of knowing you and for making my days slinging lattes at Starbucks more enjoyable. You will be missed Fancy Man

  38. I met Tony in 1976. He was a new agent assigned to the Ecevit detail. I questioned whether he should be driving the limo, than saw him smile and put on driving gloves. Later at a critical moment asked if ordered would he drive through a blockade even if it ment hitting people. He responded yes sir. I could see he was special, and he proved it again and again throughout his career. I was always proud to serve with him, and thinking of him always puts a smile on my face.

  39. Many memories Tony, you were always helpful and always had a supportive word! I especially remember a long flight from London in 1981, when I bumped into you on PAA 106, along with Gene Bishop. I was having a pretty rough time then and you guys gave me a major boost. Thanks! RIP my brother. Semper Fi – Mike

  40. We have lost a true patriot. Tony motivated many of us in Diplomatic Security with his energy and spirit. I am proud to have been acquainted with him and smile when reflecting back on overseas encounters. A true expression of admiration and respect, the stories about Tony always became better every time they were told. Tony Deibler was the Davy Crockett of DS; tough, dependable, and ready to take on a difficult challenge.

  41. I had the distinct pleasure to work with Tony as a brand new agent 12 years ago. He was a great mentor, had a terrific sense of humor, and always had a great story to tell about the adventures he experienced as a DS agent. Most importantly Tony always took care of his agents. His willingness to serve in difficult assignments, because the work mattered, serves as an example that we should all try to emulate. My heartfelt condolences go out to the Deibler family. As I type I am sure that agents around the world today are telling their favorite stories about working with Tony. I was fortunate to work with him and take solace in the fact that Tony has had a lasting impact on a generation of agents.

  42. I really looked up to Tony when I was growing up. He was the embodiment of a true American Hero. I will always remember every time I went to the Deibler’s house, Tony would be outside meticulously maintaining the yard and always greet me with a smile on his face. My deepest condolences to Fiona, Alexis, and Will.

  43. It was a pleasure knowing you, working with you, learning from you, but most of all just being a friend. You were a DS Legend and you will be missed by many.

  48. Tony, how I will miss you. Before we met, I had heard so many stories about you during your high school years. When you left the Corps, 2 wks after John, and moved into our townhouse, I discovered that not only did I like you, but the stories were all true! We had some great times… in our home, attending the USMC Birthday Ball in Columbus, eating breakfast at some greasy spoon in Athens at 3 a.m. after the both of you finished your chores at the Court St bars you worked. I’ve never been able to play poker since you and John taught your girlfriend and me how to do so. We never realized that the deck was more than stacked against us, did we? Sometimes I almost felt like a housemother to you- proofing your papers or trying to balance your checkbook. The years were great to all of us. Thank you for being our daughter’s godfather. I’m pleased that your friendship with John survived the years, you both were able to talk on the phone and see each other again.

  49. Tony, It’s time to say good-bye. You were my best friend since you moved to Athens in junior high. I’m happy that our friendship lasted all these years. When I think of those early years, I remember our staying at each other’s houses, parties, bugging your sisters, Audrey being my "second" mom, Nan teaching us table manners, the road trips to visit girls, Ft Lauderdale, wrecking our motorcycles. When both of us joined the Corps, I was lucky to be on a mountain top and you were in the valley of Hill 881. Purple Heart for you and a stay at Bethesda Hospital. I am glad I got to see you there. It is a good thing the Corps sent us to different posts as Marine Security Guards, the place would never have recovered. Then together again in Athens for college. So many memories there…. ROTC any one? Living with Karen and me, bouncers at the bars on Court St, classes with Dr. Kim….. More good times to share over the years…. Well, I’ll see you again, but hopefully not too soon!

  50. It is really sad news, Tony brought me up from Khartoum to Doha as FSNI, that was a short distance BUT it was wide step to a better life for my family, a very kind man and a true friend. He was one of my teachers in faith and kindness. I always sought his wise and compassionate counsel. I miss him greatly, as I’m sure thousands do with me. I have no doubt that Tony resides in Paradise and receives the reward of an honest, helpful and compassionate life. Boss Tony, rest in peace. Truly yours Awad Senior FSNI/ Doha

  51. Anyone who had the opportunity to work with Tony learned from him as he challenged us all to be better. Tony really demonstrated for all of us undying devotion to what matters, and also how to really enjoy life. His selflessness in serving the country he loved was surpassed only by his love for his family. He was always so proud of you. Please accept my condolences to you during this difficult time. Thank you for the sacrifices you made as part of the Foreign Service. Tony, you will be missed.

  52. How can a man be considered a friend after decades of being out of touch? If the man is Tony, it’s easy to understand. He came to us later in HS, made us love him, and will be remembered for pulling that off. Love to Fiona and family.

  53. May all of God’s love strengthen you during this time. You and your family are in my prayers and thoughts.

  54. May peace and love abound in your family as you remember Tony. He will be missed by those he worked with, led, mentored and shared stories with.

  55. Fiona and family, Peter and I want you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers. What a lovely service today. Will, you did an awesome job..your Dad would have been so proud of you. RIP Tony. Kim and Peter

  56. Friends are forever… Sending all our love and prayers. We are so sad to hear of Tony’s passing. We have such great memories of such a wonderful neighbor and friend. Please contact us when you can. Would love to see you again . Blessings to Fiona,Alexis and William.

  57. I(we) were very sad to hear of Tony’s passing & wish his family our Deepest Sympathies, As a member of our wedding party & good friend it has brought back a flood of great memories. Sincerely, Don & Carolyn Richardson

  58. I was just thinking about Tony on my drive in today and wondering where he was. I googled him and was deeply saddened to find out he had passed. Tony was a patriot, a true leader in DSS always looking out for his agents and never afraid to speak his mind, an attribute I admired greatly. Tony will be missed but never forgotten.

  59. Tony was a mentor and an example. He taught me how to look at myself in the mirror and do the right thing, even if the right thing was not the popular choice. I had the honor and priviledge to showcase this legend to new basic agents as they graduated basic. I felt it was important for new agents to know and understand the complxities of their new career choice. Who better than Tony to share knowledge of non traditional work of a traditional agent. Semper Fidelis Tony. I know that the streets of heaven are better guarded now that ever before.

  60. My condolences to the Deibler family. I considered Tony a mentor and a friend, especially during my early years in DS. I learned such a great deal from him on protective details – he was always there to explain how things should be done the right way. Tony was a true Patriot and dedicated not only to DS but to his family. He was a fearless leader who will forever remain a legend. Rest in Peace Tony – I’ll see you on the other side.

  61. While going through the DS academy, I heard stories about a few agents performing heroic deeds and legendary feats. Tony was one of these agents I heard stories about. After hearing these stories, I thought to myself – if I’m in a foreign country and a firefight breaks out, I want Tony present! I then had the pleasure of working with Tony overseas for thirty days and it was an honor to do so. He was made to serve in DS with his ‘just get the job done’ attitude. To me, Tony is truly an American hero and served his country well. Godspeed Tony – enjoy God’s pure happiness.
