Paul Francis Carrier, 74, passed away on March 21, 2026, leaving behind a life defined by service, devotion, and deep love for his family.
Born on May 2, 1951, in Westbrook, Maine, Paul was the son of Pauline Gaudreau and Don Carrier. He grew up alongside his brothers, Mike and Steve. Though he built his life around Washington, DC, Paul remained closely connected to his Maine roots, returning each year to visit family and, as he liked to say, “refresh his accent.”
Paul earned his Bachelor of Engineering from The Catholic University of America, where he also met the love of his life, Diane (née Kidd). They were married in 1974, beginning a remarkable 52-year partnership grounded in family and mutual devotion.
Paul was a proud and loving father to his three sons: Chris (Melissa), Matt (Katie), and Jon (Liz), and a cherished grandfather to eight beloved grandchildren. Nothing brought him greater joy than time spent with his family, who were the center of his life.
Paul was deeply committed to serving others. Professionally, he worked as a proud civil servant with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Homeland Security, where he used his expertise to ensure the safety and stability of the electric grid as an infrastructure lead.
Paul’s generosity extended well beyond his career. For 16 years, he coached youth soccer for his sons, teaching not just the game but the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance. In later years, he could be found cheering from the sidelines at his grandchildren’s games, always their biggest supporter.
He was also an avid weather enthusiast. At his first home he could be found sitting on the roof watching incoming thunderstorms. Later he kept statistics from a home weather station and reported these local data points to the weather service. He crafted his own snow forecasts, often with remarkable accuracy, and delighted in sharing them with family and friends.
Paul will be remembered for his kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering commitment to those he loved. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the many lives he touched.
Paul was an active and dedicated parishioner at St. Philip Catholic Church, where a celebration of life Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026.
Even in the face of 16 years of health challenges, Paul continued to think first of others, participating in clinical trials to advance Parkinson’s research. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research would be greatly appreciated.
