April 25, 1947 ~ August 6, 2025

Born in: Sacramento, California
Resided in: Springfield, Virginia

Nora Jane Kronenthal passed away peacefully in Northern Virginia on August 6, 2025 after a long struggle with Parkinsonism. Nora was born in Sacramento, California and grew up in the Sierra foothills. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and the Golden Gate University School of Law, Nora spent much of her career as a legal editor for Continuing Education of the Bar in Oakland, California and for the Book Publishing Division of the State Bar of Texas in Austin. She also worked in private practice in Berkeley, California and Rochester, New York.

Nora was a lover of animals and fostered breeding of Great Dane dogs and Burmese cats. She founded the Shoal Crest Cattery, dedicated to propagation of the traditional (European) Burmese purebred bloodline, substantially contributing to its U.S. presence. Nora was a talented artist, interior decorator, gardener/landscaper, and culinary virtuoso who could replicate any dish after tasting it once. Above all, Nora was the loving, devoted mother of two and steadfast partner of her husband of 40 years. She will be missed more than words can say.

She is survived by her daughter Iris (Frank Nothaft) Warchall, son Julian (Yukari) Warchall, husband Henry Warchall, sister Linda Kronenthal, brother Michael (Felicia Merrick) Kronenthal, and granddaughter Rosalind Nothaft. A private family celebration of Nora’s life will be held in California.

In lieu of flowers, those interested may make a donation in her honor to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research:

  1. Geez, Nora. Missed you again, just by a couple of weeks. I hear there are Great Danes in Heaven, and I’m sure they’ll give you one.
