Myrna L. Garza, age 89, of Alexandria, VA, died on September 4, 2022 with her family by her side.

Myrna was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, the late Santiago L. Garza.  Born in Monterrey, Mexico she and her husband moved to the United States in 1955. She is survived by her children Myrna Miller (Kerry), Robert Garza (Kim), James Garza (Gwen) Mario Garza (Alicia) and eight grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Angelica Valdes and Rosario Rodriguez, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A loving mother and homemaker, Myrna loved classical music and was an accomplished pianist.  She was a talented china painter specializing in the Dresden style and she won many competitions with her work.  Myrna was so proud of her family and leaves behind many wonderful memories of their travels together and their family celebrations.

The Garza family expresses its great appreciation for the loving care by her aide Elena Madrid, during the final year of Myrna’s life.

The family will receive friends on September 25 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Old Town Funeral Choices Chapel, 1205 Belle Haven Road, Alexandria, VA. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, September 26, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Basilica, 310 S. Royal Street, Alexandria, VA.  Interment to immediately follow at Mt. Comfort Cemetery, Alexandria, VA.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association,  2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900  Arlington, VA  22202.

  3. I am so sorry for your loss and to hear of Myrna’s death. I thoroughly enjoyed all the time she and I spent together; she was someone who would always make me laugh at her stories and was a joy to be around. Food was passion we both shared along w/ our birthdays. I will miss my friend.
