Louise Juanita Smollok

Louise J. Smollok, 87, a retired homemaker, died on January 11, 2011 of lung cancer peacefully at her home in Northern Virginia with her beloved daughter and loving canine companions at her side.

Mrs. Smollok was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and worked as a riveter for the PB-Y amphibious rescue aircraft during WWII in New Orleans for many years and was extremely proud to support the war effort. Mrs. Smollok met her husband, Alex Smollok during World War II at a dance in 1944. They married on July 13, 1944 and moved to Passaic, New Jersey later that year. After relocating to New Jersey, Mrs. Smollok worked as a secretary and various office positions in the pharmaceutical industry before starting a family.

Her beloved husband, Alex, died in 1998 and had proudly served with the United States Navy in WWII.

Mrs. Smollok was a resident of Clifton, New Jersey for over 60 years before reloacting to Northern Virginia in 2005 to join her daughter. Mrs. Smollok is survived by her daughter, Alexis Smollok, and niece, Shawn Ripko-Heydrick of Georgia.

Burial will be conducted at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown, New Jersey next to her husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in loving memory of Louise to The Friends of Homeless Animals of Northern Virginia, P.O. Box 2575, Merrifield, Virginia 22116-2575.

  2. I grew up in New Orleans hearing stories about Aunt Louise and Cousin Alexis. Although you were thousands of miles away it seemed like you were right there. My grandmother loved her sister very much! The week we spent together for Shawn’s wedding was a time of joy for me because we were together as a family!!
