Emad Ismail
December 13, 1939 ~ January 5, 2026
Born in:
Cairo, Egypt
Resided in:
Alexandria, Virginia

I had known Emad and his wife Betty for more than twenty years. I was very close to both of them. Betty was from North Carolina as was my mother. Emad was from Egypt, a place I have visited at least three times. I was deeply saddened by the passing of Betty in January of 2025 and the passing of Emad in January 2026. I had helped Emad up until his passing with many of the things that must be done following the death of a spouse. He had honored me by considering me as a younger brother.
Initial plans were for Emad, while still living, to return to Egypt in 2026. Per his request, I had promised him I would accompany him and stay for about a week. Emad had also told me that in the event of his passing in the U.S., his desire was for his body to be returned to Egypt. He was very adamant about this. He would then receive a proper burial in accordance with the tenets of Islam. Among other issues, cremation is strictly forbidden for Muslims. Emad was Muslim. He was a son of Egypt and a citizen of the U.S. Hopefully his wishes were honored. If not, then those responsible would have to answer to God!
I have lost two of my favorite friends and neighbors, Emad Ismail and Betty Jones. I miss each of them very much. They were always very kind and helpful to me. It was my pleasure to have helped them with numerous issues and minor problems over the years.
I believe both are in heaven and have been able to gaze upon the face of God! May their souls rest in peace for eternity!
