Resided in: Fredericksburg, Virginia

Peter Noel Knoch, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away on September 29, 2026, at the age of 59.

Peter was born on May 30, 1967, to Vernon Knoch and Anne Mortenson. Throughout his life, he called several places home, including Fall River Mills and Alturas, California, Chico, California, and Fallon, Nevada, before spending his final years in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Peter lived a full and varied life, with a career that reflected both his hardworking nature and his willingness to take on new challenges. He proudly served for ten years as a State Trooper with the Nevada Highway Patrol before retiring in 2024. Earlier in his career, he served with the Butte County Department of Corrections and Paradise Police Department in California, owned a Quiznos in Paradise, and managed several Safeway stores in Paradise, Crescent City and the SF Bay Area. His career took many different paths over the years, each adding to the experiences and stories that made up his life.

Peter found happiness in many of life’s simple pleasures. An avid reader, he also loved fishing, hunting, hiking, working on cars, spending time on the water, and listening to music. He especially treasured time with his beloved dogs, Carson, Zachary and Grizz.

Above all, Peter loved his family. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lynne Marie Knoch; his children, Katie Winter (née Knoch) of Arlington, Virginia, and Payton Knoch of Erie, Pennsylvania; his mother, Anne Mortenson; his stepmother, Jo Knoch; and his step-siblings, Jon Williams, Rob Williams, Karen Mortenson, and Keith Mortenson. He also leaves behind extended family, friends, former colleagues, and many others whose lives he touched over the years.

Peter was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Knoch; his brother, Christopher Knoch; and his stepfather, Ed Mortenson.

At only 59, Peter left far sooner than his family and friends ever imagined. His absence leaves an immeasurable space in the lives of those who loved him, along with a lifetime of memories that will be treasured for years to come. Peter will be remembered for his humor, his unmistakable personality, and, above all, his love for his family. He was deeply loved, will be deeply missed, and will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I light this candle for Peter, a neighbor and friend lost too soon,
Who made our neighborhood a brighter, better place.

  2. Thoughts about a good friend, a fun boss and a stand up guy. Our time in California was short but what fun memories were made.

  3. Lighting a candle in memory of Peter and sending love to you and your family. With deepest sympathy, the Thomas family.

  4. In loving memory of Peter Knoch. The youngest of Vance (cousin) , Christopher (brother) and Craig (cousin). I always laughed at the stories of Peter trying to keep up with the other 3 on the ranch when getting into mischief💕
