John Cheney Platt, III

john iii
John Cheney Platt, III ("Jack"}, age 80, died unexpectedly on January 4, 2017 of an advanced form of esophageal cancer which had presented itself with no symptoms other than weight loss. He passed peacefully and painlessly in his sleep with loving family by his side.

Jack, also known by many as "Cowboy" served proudly as an officer in the United States Marine Corps which was followed by 25 years of service in the Central Intelligence Agency. He led an amazing life, full of intrigue, mystery and adventure, which he embraced and lived to the fullest. Jack served his country abroad in Austria, Laos and France, where he encountered all kinds of people, cultures, challenges and "sticky situations," and handled them all with strength, courage and an unstoppable sense of humor. He was a hero among the Cold War Warriors and a consummate patriot for his beloved country. He was a natural leader, a mentor to many and did not suffer fools (or bosses) lightly.

After he retired from the CIA, he formed Hamilton Trading Group with a partner that allowed him to continue to pursue his love and passion for his country by training others to protect themselves in the domestic and international world we live in.

He spent his last few years traveling with his wife, Paige, the love of his life and best friend of over 57 years. We are comforted that Jack lived and played the game of life on "his terms" right up until the very end.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Jack on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Falcons Landing Retirement Community, 20522 Falcons Landing Circle, Potomac Falls, VA 20165. In lieu of flowers, Jack would have asked that a donation be made to the US Marine Corps Memorial Association: http://mmanetcom.marineclub.com/Donate
